Spring at Three Tree Lodge – Spring Break in South Devon

I think spring might actually be my favourite time of year here at Three Tree Lodge.

There’s a moment when you realise it’s arrived. The light changes and the evenings stretch out a little longer. You step outside and it just feels different.

Here in Bishopsteignton, tucked away in our little corner of South Devon, everything starts to wake up again. The hedgerows begin to bloom, the sea catches the light differently, and the fields nearby feel full of life. Particularly from the

skylarks. If you’re sitting outside in the morning — maybe with a coffee, maybe still in your pyjamas — you can hear them in the fields. That bright, constant birdsong high above you. It’s one of those simple things that feels a bit magical, and it’s very much part of spring here.

Slow starts

Spring isn’t about big plans. It’s about opening the doors, letting the fresh air in and taking your time. Lighting the wood-fired hot tub and easing into the day while the air is still cool. Some guests head out exploring. Others barely leave. A bit of both feels right this time of year.

Getting out for a wander

If you do fancy getting out, it’s such a lovely season to explore before summer properly arrives. A walk along the seafront at Teignmouth, or over at Shaldon. Or a drive up to Dartmoor when it’s bright and clear and feels like you can see forever with the cleanest air. Then coming back to the lodge, shutting the door behind you, and settling in for the evening.

That in-between cosiness

The thing I love most about spring is that it still feels cosy. You can light the log burner in the evening and not feel ridiculous. You can sit in the hot tub as the light fades and hear the birds settling down.

It’s peaceful, but not sleepy.

Fresh, but still comforting.

It feels like a bit of a reset.

That’s really what the lodge is for. A pause. A breather. A couple of days to properly switch off and just be where you are.

Spring is quietly beautiful here and if you’re lucky, the skylarks will put on a soundtrack for you too.
